Wage Position Descriptions and Pay Scales

All DoIT wage positions are categorized as either Lab/Classroom Staff, Production/Development Staff, or Administrative Staff. Within each wage category there are three pay levels corresponding to the degree of experience and/or level of technical expertise (L1 - L3, P1 - P3, A1 - A3).

Lab/Classroom Staff: L1, L2, L3
Production/Development Staff: P1, P2, P3
Administrative Staff: A1, A2, A3

These are expectations for all DoIT positions:

  • Good customer service skills
  • Ability to work well with faculty, staff, students, and co-workers
  • Punctual attendance for assigned shifts
  • Complete appropriate training/orientation for unit
  • Follow established safety practices on the job
  • Understand and comply with the Responsible Use of Computing Policy
Lab/Classroom Staff: for example, Lab Assistants, A/V Assistants, Electronic Classroom Assistants.
L1: Basic knowledge of computer operations and/or basic A/V equipment operations; basic knowledge of software applications; demonstrated internet skills; ability to install and upgrade software/hardware as directed; responsible for cleaning of equipment; know who to contact for problems/where to direct clients for additional help; assists in checking out equipment and/or resources; other duties as assigned. Pay scale: $6.50 - 10.00
L2: All of the duties listed in L1, plus: assists clients with the use of computer hardware/software, graphics/text scanning, slide/film scanning, digital cameras, Scantron use, and CD creation; ability to research, troubleshoot and follow-up on minor technical problems; ability to set-up equipment/hook a laptop up to the network in a classroom; extensive knowledge of a/v equipment operations; ability to provide technical support to instructors, staff, and students. Pay scale: $7.00 - 11.00
L3: All of the duties listed in L2, plus: ability to research, troubleshoot and follow-up on mid-range technical problems; extensive knowledge of software applications; ability to teach workshops and/or train co-workers; ability to direct installation and upgrading of software/hardware. Pay scale: $8.00 - 12.00
 
Production/Development Staff: for example, Production Assistants, Web Designers and Developers, Videographers, and Project Leaders. Technical areas: multimedia applications, desktop publishing, Web design and creation, computer presentation skills, video skills (analog and digital), database design and development, and internet research.
P1: Demonstrates ability in two of the technical areas listed above appropriate to the position; provides production and/or technical support with minimal supervision; assists with set-up and break-down of production equipment; creates basic project or designs with minimal supervision; performs other duties as assigned with minimal supervision. Pay scale: $7.50 - 12.00
P2: All of the duties listed in P1, plus: demonstrates ability in three of the technical areas listed above appropriate to the position; ability to complete a basic project or design without direct supervision; ability to complete more advanced projects or designs with minimal supervision; works independently and takes initiative. Pay scale: $8.50 - 13.00
P3: All of the duties in P2, plus: demonstrates ability in four or more of the technical areas listed above appropriate to the position; ability to design, produce, and maintain creative project; ability to research, troubleshoot and follow-up on complex technical problems; ability to plan, develop and direct workshops; ability to research and make product recommendations; ability to manage and direct specialized projects; has well-developed time management skills. Pay scale: $9.50 - 15.00
 
Administrative Staff: for example, Receptionist, Office Assistant, Administrative Assistant.
A1: Provides administrative support for the unit; answers phones; takes messages; sorts mail; assists with campus-wide mailings; sends and distributes faxes; filing; greets visitors and demonstrates good customer service skills; reports maintenance and service problems; other duties as assigned. Pay scale: $6.50 - 10.00
A2: All of the duties listed in A1, plus: scheduling of unit's equipment and/or resources; checking out equipment and/or resources; scheduling appointments for staff; research on the internet; assists with billing inquiries; assists with purchasing; assists with general maintenance of equipment. Pay scale: $7.50 - 11.00
A3: All of the duties in A2, plus: assists in payroll functions; maintains databases, logs, and records of unit's services; assists in preparation and scheduling of workshops and meetings; writes correspondence; assists in production/distribution of publications (newsletters, brochures); records minutes of meetings; assists in Web page design and maintenance; assists in hiring functions. Pay scale: $8.50 - 12.00
